Dante Alighieri là một hiệp sĩ thời trung cổ. Vợ của anh - nàng Beatrice xinh đẹp, bị sát hại, nhưng linh hồn nàng không được lên thiên đàng mà bị chúa quỷ Lucifer bắt xuống địa ngục (Inferno). Được sự hướng dẫn của Virgil - một nhà thơ La Mã, Danta đã mở ra cánh cửa địa ngục, đối đầu với Tử thần, tiêu diệt hắn và đoạt lấy lưỡi hái của hắn. Với lưỡi hái tử thần, cây thánh giá do nàng Beatrice tặng anh trước kia cùng với khao khát được giải phóng cho người mình yêu, Dante lần lượt đi qua từng tầng của địa ngục, nơi phơi bày và trừng phạt cũng tội lỗi xấu xa của con người như lust (Dâm loạn), gluttony (Thèm khát), greed (Tham lam), anger (Cuồng nộ), heresy (Dị giáo), violence (Bạo lực), fraud (Lừa dối) ... Ở mỗi tầng, anh không chỉ phải chiến đấu chống lại những con quái vật kì dị của địa ngục, mà còn phải chống lại những tội lỗi xấu xa ẩn dấu trong chính bản thân mình ...

Dante's Inferno Animated là phim hoạt hình giới thiệu cho Dante's Inferno - game hành động sắp ra mắt của EA. Dante's Inferno được phát triển dựa theo chương thứ nhất trong bài thơ Divine Comedy của nhà thơ Italia Dante Alighieri. Người chơi sẽ vào vai chiến binh Dante tiêu diệt toàn bộ lũ quái vật ở nơi 9 tầng địa ngục. Đây là lần thứ 2 EA phát hành 1 phim hoạt hình để quảng bá cho game, sau Death Space. Dante's Inferno Animated được xây dựng với phong cách khá giống Animatrix và Batman: Gotham Knight: chia ra làm nhiều phần, mỗi phần sẽ là 1 đạo diễn khác nhau, nên phim thể hiện nhiều phong cách đồ hoạ cũng như ý tưởng được thể hiện khác nhau.
